PRETTY IN PINK
Last February, when I went to visit my childhood chum Kate, I took photos of her vintage doll and toy collection. Sadly, in this case, "vintage" means things we played with when we were children (Yes, it's true, my childhood is officially "vintage."). Anyway, I am participating in Jo Ann Owens' In the Pink collaborative art project; so, I decided that a photo of Kate's ballerina doll (poor dear is showing her age , as are we all) would be a perfect pink project. Well, I couldn't print out just one ballerina, could I? (those who know me, know the answer is no, I couldn't do just one) After I sent off my 5x5 page to Jo Ann, I decided to make a collage (fabric, free form sewing, the fabric print of the doll, beads, trim, a quote and a short piece of writing by me) with one of the other photos I printed off. If she wants it, I'm going to give the collage to Kate.

my all time favorite line ever from a braodway show :)
i really love this piece joanne!

Lovely, Joanne! I'm a little behind in viewing posts, so sorry to be late in commenting! I just love the doll. She looks very familiar. Perhaps I had one. Kate has to love this.

Oh Joanne, your page is definitely pretty in pink. Say, being vintage isn't so bad. Being called an antique....well, I like being vintage a lot better!!

This is great, Joanne! I love the beading, the color, the doll. I like less the reminder that what we played with as children is now vintage, but alas, it's a true fact!
Looking forward to meeting up with you soon!

I'm blown away. I can remember my cousin Annie taking me to see a ballet at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford when I was little. I must have been given the doll about that time. I wanted to do arabesqus like the dancers on stage and took ballet lessons someplace on Main Street. The pianist had old spotted veined hands like mine are now. I was afraid of them because, when she played it looked like animals running up and down the keyboard.
And there was, indeed, much pink and tutus, ballet slippers and toe shoes with long, long ribbons.
Now, a half century later, the doll with the missing hand has a new life in a different art. It's really amazing. Almost phoenix like. Thank you .
