WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

Earlier this week, I spent two and a half days in Chicago meeting up with Fran who was there with her charming husband Dave (he was attending a conference). We talked, ate, talked, saw the Hopper and Homer exhibits at the Art Institute, talked, ate, shopped, talked, saw Wicked, ate and talked some more. It was an absolutely wonderful time (well, there was the train ride home, when the lady who sat next to me, told me that she was from another United States and was trying to get back to her planet, and then started to talk to someone I couldn't see; but she was pleasant). Fran is a delightful lady and I look forward to seeing her again in August when I go to Art Unraveled. Here is a photo of the two of us that I took by extending my arm out and turning the camera to face us. It's a fairly accurate photo of me; but Fran is much prettier.

Speaking of photos, today was the first of my 5 classes in Photographing Your Art at the Kalamazoo Institute of Art. Once again, I am the only student. It's like having an incredible tutorial. And, since it's not really convenient to meet on Saturdays for me or my teacher, we're changing it to Wednesday afternoons. Today, I had more information given to me than I can possibly retain. Holy Cow! I had to set my camera on Manual - something I've never done before - and think about aperture openings and ISO settings and things I don't remember the name of. But, I think that at the end of the class, I'll be able to take some good photos of my art. Below is the photo of one of my crowns that we (OK, my teacher) took.

i just love you so much! you're one of the most wonderful, free spirits i know. i can't wait to see you!

Wonderful Joanne! Although I am a professional photographer- I always stunk at product photography! You are going to do fabulous- you have that keen eye and eager spirit! ((And what a happy wanderer you are! I think that's great- and it adds such a layer of richness to your creations!))

The crown is beautiful!. It IS an excellent photograph, but it still had to be gorgeous first to show up that way in the photo. I love the color!

It sounds like you had a wonderful time with Fran. How lucky you are to get to meet up with good friends. Your crown looks gorgeous. See you soon.

oh - classes in photographing your art... do I ever need that!! The crown looks fabulous - what a great skill to have :) Your train ride sounds "interesting" - many years ago when I was driving through Boston, a woman hopped into my car while I was stopped at a light and wanted me to take her home to her "planet". Yikes! Have always locked the doors since - lol!!!! PS: I ended up taking her to a hospital :) xox Deb

How fun to see your friend again! Aren't kindred spirits just the best? Those exhibits sounded terrific, too!

That's one of your crowns? Oh, my it's to die for, my dear! And a marvelous photo. Go, teach! Boy, I could sure use a class like that. If the photos of my work turn out well, it's more because I'm lucky, rather than good!

(I ADORE "Wicked." Coming to EL in June!)

It was a lovely few days! They went by far too quickly. You're a gem, my friend! xoxo, Fran

The photo looks great! That's what I need - some photo taking lessons. Your trip sounds like it was delightful - even the nutty woman sounds fun!
