Joyce Vance organized an absolutely wonderful art retreat in Birmingham AL: two separate projects, four days of classes taught by D.J. Pettitt and Deryn Mentock. It was all good (well, the weather was pretty stormy, but Joyce brilliantly set us up with workspace across a covered walkway from the back of the hotel; so, sweet little artists that we all are, we didn't melt when we got wet). The retreat was attended by old friends and newly minted on the spot friends. It's always so wonderful to walk into a room full of fellow artists and feel so comfortable (everyone "gets it").
I didn't take pictures of everyone (too busy socializing and arting) and I misplaced the cord that runs from my computer to my camera; so I didn't post as I went along. Yesterday, Catherine and Amy and I made the over 700 mile drive back to Michigan. It was a trip that included good company, good scenery (well, at least until Indianapolis), and OK weather (well, at least until Indianapolis). I'm very happy to be home, but will head out tomorrow morning for 10 days in Cape Girardeau with my husband - including a side trip to Memphis to meet up with our friends, Sally and Eric (or, as Dean calls them, Saric).
Belwo are some photos from Birmingham.
Here's Andi working on her face painting.
Here are some early steps in my face painting.

My painting finiswhed (I'm pretty sure - but I want to fix some parts) with the wire wrapping taught by Deryin (note the cool leaves and circles with Diamond Glazed word inserts and the bird's nest she taught).
Here's Kathy lounging in the cool hotel lobby.
...and Catherine looking pretty cool.
Jackie came in from Hueytown to meet up with us - so cool to meet someone in person whom you've "know" for years over the internet. She's just as kind and gracious and full of humor as I knew she would be (except for a little bit of attitude about nornerners).
Deryn and D>J> really make a great teaching team.
Below are some stages of my book cover (I have no idea when I'll finish the book, but will post when I do). D.J. really got us all excited with the possibilities of how to fill our signatures in these books.
And, now it's time to catch up on some domestic chores (real life rears its ugly head in the midst of art) and then to catch up on emails and other people's blogs.
