I made a new face mold and tried out Delight air dry modeling clay. Now I have to wait for the faces to dry. Then it will be time to paint them and use them for dolls, jewelry, and collages.
By the way, this is my first attempt at blogging by my phone.
Last week-end, I indulged in what I called "counter programming." I don't watch sports on TV, so I decided to spend my time finishing up two necklaces and making a new necklace full of vintage jewelry finds (thanks to the inspiration of Deryn Mentock and Ruth Rae).
The first necklace I finished is a black and white beaded necklace I made last summer. As with most of my projects, it is deliberately asymmetrical.
I started my mermaid necklace back when I thought my round robin necklace had gone missing (thankfully, it was found). It sat around for a long time waiting to be finished.
And then, I wanted to make one of those beautiful necklaces full of vintage jewelry and other bits and pieces. My attempt is not as full and rich as the ones Deryn makes (where does she find those incredible vintage jewelry pieces?); but I used what I had and I'm pleased with it.
Here it is again, scanned so that you can see some of the details better.
Inspired by the latest Clote Paper Scissors, I decided to make some bottle cap beads.
Now to decide what to do with them (and maybe make some more).
My fingerweaving necklace is finished...
When I was at AU, I took a class on fused glass inclusions with Peggy Krzyzewski. There was a kiln issue and she had to take our pieces home with her to fire. I just got my pieces back in the mail. I'm rather pleased with them.
As it happens, yesterday, I started a fingerweaving necklace project (which I learned from the C R Radding class I took at AU). Here is a photo of it in progress:
So, as you can see, I'm happily reliving parts of my AU adventure.
C.R. Radding taught a class on fingerweaving bracelets and necklaces. She's a patient and very knowlegeable teacher; and, she makes incredibly beautiful jewelry. Most of the class made bracelets; most of the class finished their projects in class. I made a necklace and had to finish it in my hotel room. But I did finish it and I intend to make more.

Yesterday's class was called "Get in Gear." it was taught by Lisa Pavelka, who is a very generous teacher with a wealth of information. We made gears out of silver Art Clay and polymer clay and then made steampunk pendants, layering the gears and other elements with her one step resin. I'm very pleased with my necklace. If you look carefully, you can see the black gear and black arrow that I made with polymer clay and the silver gear (with broken spoke) that I made with Art Clay.
My necklace came home last night! I am wearing it now, even as I type (OK; even as I keyboard, but typing has a better sound to it). I sent a mere 5 inches out into the world and I now have a full necklace (it was lost for a bit, but then it turned up where it was supposed to be). I feel like I am linked (pun intended) forever to the wonderful artists who worked on it. Life is good.

As you may know from my previous post, my necklace from the necklace round robin went rogue and ran off to who knows where. After a short period of mourning, I decided to plunge in and start another one. Instead of re-using the theme "the goddess within" (since the goddess didn't stay within and decided to take a hike), I changed the theme to "magical delights." I decided to use a mermaid as my focal point (see the relationship between a mermaid and "plunging in" with a new necklace?) and some "earthy" buttons that I got at last year's Bead and Button Show, rhinestone chain, and a chain of metal disks. I hope my mermaid finds her way back to me after she leaves home this week-end.
It's my turn to work on Kathy's neckace. She asked for neutral colors and a vintage look. Kathy and Sue and Beth had all made beautiful pieces for this necklace. It has a wonderful vintage feel and a certain elegance. I hope my addition (circled in white in the photo below) pleases Kathy. I used some old beads, my precious rhinestone chain, a piece from one of my favorite bracelets, and a vintage earing. I will pass this on to Brittney and then she will send it home to Kathy.
