I am in a swap inspired by Teesha Moore's wonderful fabric pillow art journal (see it here) and I have to get working on it now because I have busy times coming up and I want to make sure I finish things off before they're due. The assignment is to make 12 pillows sized somewhere between 3 and 5 inches in colors evocative of the sea, quilt them, embellish them and send them off to get 12 pillows back (not surprisingly for anyone who knows me, I decided to make more than 12). I decided that I would use my own photos/backgrounds for my pillow fronts, printing them out on fabric and use commercial fabric prints for the backs. Teesha's pillows have wonderful embroidery thread sewn edges and quilting; I went with using my sewing machine and metallic thread to edge and free motion quilt (with a little attempt at thread painting on some). I still have to embellish my pieces (thinking of polymer buttons or beads or sequins or embroidery or ribbons).
