My local art group, The Altered Sister, is currently participating in an art exhibit at the Portage Library. The theme of the exhibit is "framed;" taking one of our favorite books in a piece that integrates a frame with a visual image of the book. Our art was placed on the entry ramp into the library (this is prime exhibition real estate).
I chose "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland" for my book.
I changed one of Tenniel's original drawings slightly in Photoshop (finding a solo drawing of Alice is a lot harder than you would think). I printed this out in increasing sizes to convey the idea of Alice stepping out of the book into the world, becoming the icon that she is. I water colored the largest image. I tore up text and illustrations from the book to wrap around the frame, to emphasize Alice going beyond the borders of the book.
Here is a detail of the piece, so you can see the frame better.
Wow - this is awesome!
